Lieutenant Governor
- Most powerful office in the state.
- Term of office is 4 years.
- Must be:
- A U.S. citizen;
- A resident of Texas for at least 5 years prior to the election;
- At least 30 years of age.
- Serves as the President of the Texas Senate.
- Appoints committees and committee chairs.
- Has a great deal of control over what happens in the Senate.
- Can vote when the Senate is in committee of the whole and in order to break ties.
- Takes over for the Governor if necessary.
